Good afternoon Village of Oswego HOA members,
Every 10 years, the Census conducts a complete count of people throughout the country. This data is used for legislative apportionment, as well as allocating more than $675 billion in federal funds. The Census is especially important for municipalities in Illinois, which allocates various shared revenues on a per-person basis. These shared revenues totaled $6 million for Oswego this year. We ask for your help in making sure ALL Oswego residents are counted in the 2020 Census!
Households will receive their first invitation to complete the Census between March 12 and March 20. For the first time, residents will be invited to complete the Census online. People may also complete the questionnaire by phone or request a paper form. In May, the Census will begin what they call “non-response follow up,” where they visit residences where individuals have not yet responded. Census workers will have a ID badge with a photo and their name, and will be carrying Census-logoed items (bag, electronics, etc.).
Please also be aware that the Census will never ask for money, bank account numbers, credit card information or social security numbers. If someone posing as a Census worker requests this information, do not provide it and please report the incident to the police department.
Additional Census information is attached for distribution to your Homeowner Associations and you can find more information online at 2020census.gov. You are also welcome to contact Christina Burns, Assistant Village Administrator directly at 630-551-2349 or firstname.lastname@example.org with questions regarding the Census.
