Monthly Landscape Report August 14, 2017

 

I. Storm Water Ponds

         Pond 1 (Gates Creek and Mill Rd)

    Water Quality

(1)  No data available - pond is not under maintenance contract.

(2)  No visible algae or surface vegetation present.

    Surrounding Shoreline

         west side

(1)  heavy overgrowth of trees.

         north side

(1)  heavy overgrowth of invasive weeds.

         south side

(1)  overgrowth of evergreen bushes, some ground is void of vegetation due to tree and bush removal and spraying of weed suppressant from landscape vendor.

         east Side

(1)  Invasive weeds and saplings.

    Drainage System

(1)  In good order

         Action Items:

(1)  Pruning of trees on west side included in Tree Mx Program.

(2)  Other issues will be addressed in 2018 Landscape Plan.

(3)  Reset "No Fishing" sign posts in concrete.

         Pond 2 (Willowwood)

    Water Quality

(1)  No data available - pond is under a provisional maintenance contract; no maintenance has been performed year to date.

(2)  100% surface covered with Wolffia (duckweed blooms), some Arrowheads breaking surface.

    Surrounding Shoreline

         west side

(1)  good shape, most trees have been pruned.

         north side

(1)  good shape.

         south side

(1)  a few overgrown bushes and tree.

         east Side

(1)  Invasive weeds and saplings.

    Drainage System

(1)  In good order.

         Action Items:

(1)  Remove overgrown bush and Black Alder on south side. ILM to treat pond for remainder of warm months.

(2)  Landscape development and maintenance currently being completed by GCBGC.

(3)  Sediment removal plan on hold due to regulatory issues. Alternatives being reviewed.

         Pond 3 (Willowwood and Arbor Ln)

    Water Quality (tested on 7/13 and 7/24)

(1)    Dissolved oxygen: (7.8) / (11.2) [4 - 7 ok, 7 - 11 good]

(2)  Water Clarity: 3ft / 3ft

(3)  100% surface covered with Wolffia (duckweed blooms).

    Surrounding Shoreline

         west side

(1)  heavy overgrowth of trees and bushes.

         north side

(1)  heavy overgrowth of invasive weeds.

         south side

(1)  overgrowth of evergreen bushes, some ground is void of vegetation due to tree and bush removal and spraying of weed suppressant from landscape vendor.

         east Side

(1)  Invasive weeds and saplings.

    Drainage System

(1)  Low outlet pipe blocked. Drainage ditch blocked with tree roots.

 

         Action Items:

(1)  Other issues will be addressed in 2018 Landscape Plan

         Pond 4 (Arbor Ln)

    Water Quality (tested on 7/13 and 7/24)

(1)    Dissolved oxygen: (5.4) / (8.1) [4 - 7 ok, 7 - 11 good]

(2)  Water Clarity: 3ft / 3ft

(3)  Mostly clear surface with some algae near shoreline.

    Surrounding Shoreline

         west side

(1)  heavy overgrowth of trees, bushes and other invasive weeds.

         north side

(1)  good shape.

         south side

(1)  good shape.

         east Side

(1)  Invasive weeds and some saplings.

    Drainage System

(1)  Low outlet pipe blocked.

(2)  Drainage ditch blocked with tree roots.

         Action Items:

(1)  To be addressed in the 2018 Landscape Plan.

 

 

 

 

 

         II. Natural Spring Area with Bridge

 

         The area located between 275 Willowwood and Pond #2 is undergoing a provisional development program. The area is being cleared of invasive trees, bushes and weeds. The Birch copse pruned and dead trees removed. There are several test plots of plantings being installed throughout the area and several small walking trails are being created between the creek and the west side of pond #2.

 

         Test Plot 1 - 10 water irises, 5 sweet flag plants installed along creek shore near small waterfall.

(a)  Plants are doing well

         Test Plot 2 - 1 sweet flag, 2 swamp marigolds installed just north of bridge.

         Test Plot 3 - 2 large hostas, 8 white-edged hostas, 2 gold bleeding hearts, 2 Brunnera, 2 native grasses

(a)  installed on opposite hillside of the south shoreline of Pond #2 just north of Birch copse.

(b)  Some animal activity and predation has occurred.

         Test Plot 4 - 6 azaleas installed east side of large fallen tree.

         Test Plot 5 - 3 anemones installed west side of fallen tree approximately 30 feet up slope of creek.

         Test Plot 6 - 72 hostas, 3 ferns, 5 hydrangeas, installed on west side of concrete walk

(a)  and 36 pachysandras installed on east side of concrete walk within Birch copse.

 

         III. Roadway Entrances

 

         Route 34 entrance south (Marquee installed on East and West sides)

    Installed (April - July)

         420 marigolds

         5 blanket flowers

         6 dwarf barberry

         1.5 yards3 of cocao mulch

         400 lbs of decompose rustic granite

    Removed

         3 junipers

         2 spirea

          

    Mill Rd entrance northeast

(1)  preplanning stage (work to begin Fall 2017)

    Mill Rd entrance northwest

(1)  preplanning stage (work to begin Fall 2017)

(2)  Repair missing letter "A" from marquee.

    Bentson Rd entrance east

(1)  To be addressed in 2018 Landscape plan

 

         IV. Turf

         Information detailing condition of turf areas will be added in the September report.

         V. Berms

         Information detailing condition of berms will be added in the September report.

         VI. Watershed and Creek

         Information detailing condition of watershed areas and Walnut creek will be added in the September report.
